We are living in a time of unprecedented reckoning. A global pandemic has turned our world upside down. More light is being shed on inequities and racial and social injustice. Through the ages, in times of uncertainty, people have turned to reading and writing to make sense of their experiences or to create a historical record. Reading prompts us to understand perspectives different from our own and helps us feel less alone when we connect with words that describe our own experiences.

Intro to AP Human Geography (Age 14-17)

During this workshop students will explore how humans have understood and changed the Earth’s surface. An introduction to the tools and analytical skills employed by geographers will be covered, with an emphasis on connecting geographic concepts and qualifying trends in data and visual sources. Objectively understanding information from maps, images, and infographics will also be examined as part of the “Tools of the Geographer.”

Brush up on your language skills as you prepare for the AP Spanish course! This workshop will focus on building skills by studying family-life, culture, and current events. Patrick, a long-time instructor with Higher Ground, has taught Spanish all over the world, from right here in Utah to Spain. Non-native speakers should have about three years of Spanish language classes as a prerequisite: native or heritage speakers may not necessarily require such a prerequisite.
