The CPS Department of Arts Education runs a number of districtwide arts programs that are open to all CPS students (from district-managed, charter, contract, and options schools). These programs provide greater equity and access to arts programming across the district and celebrate our students’ astonishing creativity, innovation, and talent.
During the Fall/Spring classes meet once per week after school or on Saturdays for 60 or 75 minutes. During the Summer, week long workshops are offered June thru August.
We offer live and interactive online classes of chess, piano, Rubik's Cube, guitar, mathematics, abacus, public speaking, creative writing, yoga, Python programming, Scratch coding, physics, chemistry, and language classes (Spanish, German, French)
At Walker’s, we believe that demonstrable skills are the best measure of learning including literacy, critical thinking, a global perspective, taking initiative, leadership, collaboration, communication, and creativity.
These 40-minute art appreciation lessons are designed for children ages 7-12. During the lessons we will immerse ourselves into the story of a wonderful artwork. We'll use our imagination and our thinking skills to figure out what is happening. And, then, we'll understand a little bit more about ourselves by empathizing with the characters.
